First, we will separate the two acronyms. You've already understood NFT if you read the previous section. So what does the acronym PFP stand for?
Profile Picture.
PFP NFTs are NFTs that have the objective of representing your profile in some community, either within the NFT community in which you participate or outside (on social medias such as twitter, for example).
PFP NFTs are responsible for moving most of the largest NFT market (OpenSea) and engaging thousands of people around the world.
50 years ago, society had a name on the tip of its tongue for comic book and board game enthusiasts: Nerds. "Weird people" who lacked social skills and found that contact and affection only with other fans, other people in the "geek community."
However, nowadays it is possible to observe all age groups and all types of people going to the movie theaters to see Marvel movies or binge-watching episodes of Naruto. Culture and community grew silently and exponentially to the point of making a person who didn't belong to the geek community in the 70s, feel absent from a movement that was all along his side.
Communities of NFTs PFPs are born from what people like and reflect characteristics of the internet society and social media. People like arts, memes, symbols, status, representation. People like to feel part of something bigger than themselves.
The great desire to mix the digital with the social and to belong to a community. This is what brings so much visibility to PFP and NFTs in general.
The great OG, revolutionary and flagship of the movement is CryptoPunks. 4 and a half years ago, this collection was released for free (cost to acquire any CryptoPunk was just the cost of mint in Ethereum network) and today it is a multi-million dollar collection. CryptoPunks showcased the technology in an artistic way, making it possible for different qualities, generative characteristics and rarities to exist. All this in conjunction with the concept of authenticity inherent in NFTs.
CryptoPunks, in addition to the above, has brought the Pixel Art aesthetic to its NFTs. Pixel Art is largely associated with the low resolution graphics of 8/16-bit computers, old video game consoles and arcades, which have a limited number of pixels and colors to work with which marked the 90s generation and caused a huge influence in digital art. A milestone in the history of the Internet and Art, even influencing current memes and contemporary art.
CryptoPunks brought Crypto Art to the mainstream. It created such a strong community that, today, if you managed to mint a Crypto Punks before it hit the mainstream, you are considered an influencer and can move an entire market with your opinions.
Yung Pixels comes with the proposal to honor the OGs and bring a new technology to the NFTs (more democratic, decentralized and fair to the user - learn more in the Technological Overview section) and a new and fashion aesthetic, an intersection between Urban Art, Pixel Art and Digital Art - learn more in the section Dialogue With Art.
A new technological step, a new dialogue in the world of Digital Art, a new way of thinking about the decentralization of NFTs and being democratic with the community, the truthful owners of the project.
Yung Pixels aims to breathe new life into Crypto Art and the artistic/technological revolution we are currently experiencing. YP wants to open the eyes of the NFT world regarding market speculation, lack of creativity, lack of aesthetic meaning and scarcity of new technological proposals. YP will be a milestone in the history of the NFTs and you can be a part of it!
